FAQ's Vocal Mobile Services
We tackle some key questions about your Vocal mobile service including activation of your SIM card, porting your mobile number and included features of your service.
Yes! your mobile number can easily be ported to Vocal from your current provider.
Our one-size-fits-all SIMs work in mobiles which use a standard, micro or nano SIM.
So if you’ve already got a phone you love or looking for a new mobile device from our exclusive range of Samsung mobiles that are packed with features and represent awesome value, you can still enjoy our great SIM only plans!
It can take between 15mins and 4 hours for a SIM to activate. If it’s still not active, try these steps or note the porting hours below:
- Periodically turn your device off and on
- Remove and re-insert the SIM card to make sure it is seated correctly
- Sync your device with any companion software/cloud service that it may have.
If you request a port / switch to Optus outside of the hours listed below, your service will remain active with your existing provider until the next porting day:
- Monday to Friday, 8am – 8pm AEST
- Saturday, 10am – 6pm AEST (except national public holidays)
Once Voicemail is active (this takes between 15 minutes and 4 hours) you’ll get a default PIN sent via SMS.
- From your mobile dial 321
- Record your greeting
- Change your PIN
- Complete the tutorial
Make sure you change the PIN you’re sent. Your PIN maybe up to 9 digits, provided they are non-sequential (e.g. 1234) or aren’t a series of repeated numbers (e.g. 1111).

If you have access to another phone, try calling your mobile number to see if you can hear your device ringing or if someone answers. (You can also try sending an SMS)
If your device has a ‘location feature’ (e.g. Find my iPhone), use it to locate your device. If your device is shown to be in an unfamiliar location, contact the police rather than recovering it yourself.

We will offer to:
A) Bar the service
This prevents unauthorised outgoing calls, messages and cellular data (internet access). Barring may also deactivate other functions on your device.
Note: It can take up to 24 hours to bar the service.
B) Block the IMEI number
We’ll give you the option of blocking the IMEI number to prevent another SIM card being used in your device. The block applies to all carriers in Australia and will bar calls, SMS and data on your device.

Protect your personal data
Immediately change your usernames and / or passwords if you have mobile banking, social media, email; and/or utility applications on your device that hold or access your personal data. If your mobile device features a ‘remote wipe function’, consider using this to protect your personal data.
We recommend contacting your local police station to file a police report for all lost or stolen devices. The police will need to know your IMEI number to make a report.

If you’ve recovered your lost or stolen device call to let us know on 1300 796700 so we can unbar the service and unblock the IMEI number.
Note: It can take up to 24 hours to unbar your service and unblock your device
International roaming allows you to use your Vocal Mobile Number and Vocal SIM card to make/receive calls, send/receive messages, access email & mobile internet and check your voicemail in over 180 destinations across the world.
What should I check before I travel?
Make sure roaming is activated before you leave Australia.
Back up your contacts, photos and other important stuff, in case your phone is lost or stolen.
Make sure you buy a travel power adapter so you can charge your battery!
You must request International Roaming to be activated as it is automatically switched off for all new Vocal mobile customers.
How much does International Roaming cost?
There is no cost to activate the service however call and data charges can be very expensive and are not included and are charged according to the country in which you are visiting and using the service.
We recommend that our customers reduce their usage of the Vocal service whilst overseas and connect your device to a Wi-Fi service such as in your hotel room and make calls using Skype, WhatsApp or our Vocal BizPhone service.
